Air France advice

Hello. I have booked a flight for my husband and I to travel to Munich for Oktoberfest this year, then on to Austria and Italy following that. My concern is my choice of airlines. I booked Air France departing San Francisco with a one hour fifty minute layover at Charles De Gaulle (sp?) Paris. I have since heard horror stories about lost luggage with AF at CDG and am considering changing my flight plans to fly another airline arriving Frankfurt instead (with a two hour connection in Newark, NJ). Has anyone had any experience with Air France, good, bad, or otherwise? Thank you!

Air France usually has very low fares but in my opinion 90 minutes to change planes in CDG may be too quick for your luggage to follow. I also think you would be best served with Lufthansa for the other

places you are flying into. You have more options to and from Munich that way. I have avoided Air France for my whole life due to the stories and experiences my friends have had with them.

Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles; Oberammergau

Do you know of any tour operator who includes visits to the following places in his day tour programme:-

a) Neuschwanstein Castle,

b) Oberammergau and

c) Linderhof (INCLUDING A VISIT TO THE GROTTO as this is not included in the programme of the tour operators I have come across).

Thanks

Non tour operator is offering a prearranged package tour including everything you are looking for.

As you found out, all those packages only include Neuschwanstein and Linderhof ( without the Grotto) due to timetables, cost and bringing matching groups together.

Therefore, most people booking those tours are missing the Grotto and the nice Oberammergau.

My recommendation for you is, rent a car and visit all by yourself ! It is easy and you will experience much more.

Yes, might be some how more expensive when you travel alone but the cost isn´t that much if you travel with 2 or 3 friends and split the cost of the car and gas.

in addition :-)

If you do the trip by yourself - have a stop at Ettal ! It is on the way and close to Oberammergau.

Happy trip :-)

Ultimate destination is Leipzig

We will be flying to Leipzig in November, via Paris. Does anyone know if we have to go through immigration in Paris before catching a connecting flight on to Leipzig? If we do have to go through immigration in Paris, how much time should we allow between flights?

Usually in CDG or any other major hub one should want to have at least 2 hours between flights in order to make ones connection and more importantly

have ones luggage make it as well. It only takes a half hour delay landing or getting through security

to make a transfer a bit hectic!

International Dialling Tones

I%26#39;m having problems getting through to a car hire business recommended on this forum. I have e-mailed them and they have asked that I ring through the details. I have preceded their 10 digit phone number(s) by 0049 (from UK) and one goes dead (begins with 800)and the other is stated as unrecognisable (begins with 541). Can anyone help please?

First of all, I do not understand why you can not send the details by e-mail. :o)

Whatever - the 800 number sounds like a national service number that does not work for international calls. Therefore you probably just forget about that number.

541 is the area code ? Would be (0)541 in total and sounds like the area of Osnabrück.

Tell them where are you calling from and they should give you the exact number.

That´s all I can say right now. In case you tell us the car hire company name and address we could be able to organize you the right number.

Martin :-)

Well, it is an outdoor area but in case it is raining you could visit:

The Richard Strauss Institute

Churches

The Casino

Museums and Exhibitions

Wellness Programs

or visit one of the Health Spas

first time traveling to Germany

I%26#39;m leaving for Germany in 3 weeks, I%26#39;m actually taking the Queen Mary 11, from NY to Hamburg, If anyone has made this trip, tell me how the trains are from Hamburg to Nurenberg, this is my final destination.

Looking forward to the trip, although all the talk about how bad the trains are, is something I%26#39;m not looking forward to. I guess I will make sure my luggage is not too heavy

Thank you Lois

Hamburg to Nuremberg takes about 4.5 hours with the train. You might have to change trains once or if you are lucky not at all. A second option would be to fly from Hamburg to Nürnberg for abour 80 Euros.

You could take a taxi from the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken at the harbor to the airport and be in Nürnberg in an hours flying time.

German trains are stunningly good, on time and clean.

If your journey should be on an ICE, it could be worth looking to see if you can get a special offer on a first class tkt. I came to Hamburg on Monday from Heidelberg, and as it%26#39;s the last leg of my long stay here, I treated myself. €100 special offer instead of usual €166. Worth every cent for legroom and comfort.

Enjoy your trip. Do you get to see any of Hamburg? It%26#39;s worth a look.
